Emblez Longoria, a former volunteer leader with ASIS International in Alexandria, Virginia, saw a gradual expansion of his responsibilities during his years with the organization. He began as a member of the Crime and Loss Prevention Council, then became Vice Chairman and eventually Chairman of that body, before going on to spend his final two years with ASIS on its Professional Certification Board. Emblez Longoria’s experience with the global security organization serves him well in his current position as a Senior Security Consultant with Verizon Communications Inc., at Corporate Headquarters.
While he was a member of ASIS’s Crime and Loss Prevention Council, Emblez Longoria led a variety of initiatives, established security guidelines, and created best practices committees. He developed the business plan for the council and appointed a public information officer, an international liaison, and various committee leaders. Developer of a program designed to recommend security improvements to places of worship, Longoria was also a presenter on the subjects of convergence and identity management at an annual security conference. As Chairman, Emblez Longoria worked to improve diversity, attendance, and retention on the council, as well as to expand its international involvement.
Emblez Longoria’s following years on the ASIS Professional Certification Board brought him new challenges and opportunities. He led the certification committee, developed examination content, undertook job analysis, and shaped policy. He also took a fresh look at the guidelines for filing continuing professional education credits and made changes to the process. Working on development workshops, study groups, and pass-point examination sessions, Emblez Longoria also provided guidance, feedback, and coaching to other members at ASIS’ annual conference.
